Catalogue Note

Based upon characters from comic books, movies and television, action figures suggests the ideal role of strength, courage, power and masculinity. Children look up to their heros with such innocence –  stimulating their imagination to mold their characters to their superheros, heroicly fighting against villains from destroying the world. Rolando Ventura began depicting action figures as his focus since 2005. This can be seen in his past exhibitions in 2009, Plasticrealism, Manila and Toybox, Singapore.

Marvel comics superhero, Captian America is a patriotic American soilder who’s duty is to protect the United States from the Axis Power of World War II. In Captian America 1:12, Rolando Ventura has depicted a hero helplessly laying in a puddle of mud. Defeated. “I wanted to show that no matter how incredible the powers of these superheros are - they are still held captive by the imaginations of who owns them” he commented.
