Description

  • sapphire, diamond, platinum
Centring on a cushion-shaped sapphire weighing 12.60 carats, flanked on each side by a cushion-shaped diamond together weighing approximately 4.00 carats, mounted in platinum. Ring size: 6

Condition

Colour and Clarity: According to both Gübelin and AGL reports, the sapphire is natural, of Kashmir origin, with no indication of heating and clarity enhancement. Gübelin appendix states that this sapphire "possesses a richly saturated and homogeneous colour, combined with a high degree of translucency." Please refer to the reports and appendix for details. In our opinion, the sapphire shows a saturated, deep strong vivid blue colour, with good brilliance. Clean to naked eyes. Upon 10x loupe, the sapphire is still quite clean, only a few tiny crystal inclusions and minor growth zoning, but not seen to naked eyes and do not affect the brilliance. Two cushion diamonds weigh approximately 2.00 carats each, about F to G colours, VS clarity. Condition: Platinum ring mount, in mint condition.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

Catalogue Note

Accompanied by Gübelin and AGL reports numbered 13025089 and CS 53616 respectively, dated 18 February and 19 February 2013, stating that the 12.60 carat sapphire is natural, of Kashmir origin, with no indications of heating. Further accompanied by a Gübelin appendix, stating that the sapphire "possesses a richly saturated and homogeneous colour, combined with a high degree of transparency... Such a combination of characteristics is rare in natural sapphires of this size."
