Catalogue Note
Charles Dickens's copy of a biography of George Washington by the British author Cyrus Edmonds. Each volume contains both of Dickens's bookplates: the first with a lion couchant and his name; the second reading "From the Library of | Charles Dickens, | Gadshill Place, June, 1870." By odd coincidence, Dickens embarked on the ship George Washington for his lecture tour in America.
