Catalogue Note
First edition of Collins' first published novel; the H. Bradley Martin copy. Collins began writing Antonina in 1845 after a trip to Italy; on his return, his father was so pleased with the novel that he encouraged his son to abandon his apprenticeship and continue writing. Wilkie suspended work on the novel on William Collins death in 1847 in order to write the Memoirs advertised in this volume.
