Catalogue Note
The Sadleir-Martin copy.
Sadleir considered Doctor Thorne to be rarer even than Barchester Towers because Chapman & Hall, a relatively inexperienced publisher at that stage, under-printed the first edition: in Sadleir's view "collectors will have trouble over Doctor Thorne".
