8vo (195 x 116mm.), first edition, original pale brown cloth with grain running horizontally (Sadleir's first binding, with the 24-page publisher's catalogue bound at end dated 1854), covers blocked with decorative frame, spine lettered in gilt, dark brick endpapers with advertisements for Colonel Armine Mountain's Memoirs and Letters and Admiral Parry's Memoirs printed in black at front and back respectively (variant not noted by Sadleir), later morocco-backed folding box by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, title-page slightly stained, occasional slight spotting, hinges cracked, endpapers slightly worn, spine slightly chipped at foot
