This painting is unlined and is still stretched on what appears to be its original stretcher. The tacking edges have been reinforced in order for the canvas to be safely stretched, but the reverse is not reinforced or lined. The paint layer is stable. There is a good deal of original texture to the paint, and although there is some cracking that is faintly visible, it is neither an indication of instability nor an eyesore. Although the paint layer is complex and multiple glazes have been applied throughout, it can be seen under ultraviolet light that the actual paint losses and damages are minimal. There is a loss in the yellow triangle immediately to the left of the blue head that has been restored. There is another restored loss between the two feet. The edges have been retouched and tidied up. Although there may be a couple of other small spots of retouching, this is a picture that certainly is healthy. The work should be hung as is.
