Catalogue Note

The three studies depict three ascetics, each sitting in a calm and contemplative pose. The one illustrated is a Kanphat (lit. split ear) yogi, a sect distinguished by their metal earrings and extended earlobes. They belong to a Shaivite sect devoted to the legend of Goraknath.
