Oil on unlined canvas. There is a patch on the right side of the reverse which corresponds to the tie of the gentleman at left. The picture surface is in generally fine condition aside from surface dirt. There is craquelure across the surface of the work and two associated areas of stable lifting and losses, in the lower right corner around the bottle and in the lower left corner near the gentleman's tie. Under UV light, the varnish is difficult to read through.
