  • oil on canvas
  • 61 by 51cm., 24 by 20 1/8 in.

Provenance

Private Collection (acquired directly from the artist and thence by descent; sale: Sotheby's, London, 28th June 2000, lot 139)
Purchased at the above sale by the present owner

Condition

The canvas is not lined. UV examination reveals a small skilfully executed retouching to the left part of vase lip, and a further small line to the left part of the plate on which it sits. There is some stable paint shrinkage in places. Otherwise, this work is in overall very good condition and has a lovely impasto surface. Colours: overall fairly accurate in the printed catalogue, though there is less distinction between the flowers and background in the original.
