Ref. 3969 was launched in 1989 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Patek Philippe. From the limited series of 500 pieces, 450 were made in pink gold and 50 pieces were made in platinum

Patek Philippe described the Jump Hour in their 1989 sales literature as a redesign of a shape that had broken with convention when first introduced after World War 1.  In the sale's booklet Patek speaks about the model's rarity and further explains that only "five hundred of these watches will ever be manufactured... Then the movement blanks and tools will be destroyed."
