Catalogue Note

Offered in factory sealed condition with a Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin, Instruction Manual, interchangeable case back and setting pin.

Released at the Basel Fair in 2010, the gem series variation of the popular diamond set Ref.5971 was apparently created at the request of Philippe Stern to celebrate the end of production for the 5971 reference. Released in a limited series of only 5 examples with a baguette-cut sapphire set bezel and dial indexes, 5 with ruby bezel and dial indexes and 10 pieces with an emerald set bezel and dial indexes, this was the first time the company had released a limited series of gem stones on one of their high-complication wristwatches. The lot offered here is the first example of a sapphire-set Patek Philippe reference 5971 to appear at auction and represents perhaps the rarest of all limited series combinations of haute horology and haute-jewelry wristwatches by the company.
