Condition

In overall good condition. Marked under the foot with legible charge and jurande marks. Maker partly legible. The cup unmarked possibly later.

Catalogue Note

Les armes sous le pied sont celles de la famille de Fontette, originaire de Bourgogne, probablement pour Charles de Fontette, seigneur du Vaulmain, Lencourt etc... qui épouse en 1669 Louise de Boullainvillier.

Un calice de modèle très proche par Matthieu Dufeu, Paris, 1639-1640, figure dans une église de Vendée. Il est illustré dans Michèle Bimbenet-Privat, les Orfèvres et l'Orfèvrerie de Paris au XVIIe siècle, 2002, p. 321.
