Condition
The illustration of the catalogue is accurate. Good overall condition despite the usual minor scratches and marks throughout.
The gilding of the lounts is slightly tarnished.
Two minutes losses to the painted panel.
The fall front door reveals a very nice series of small sycamore drawers and a writing top linned with leather (with the usual wears and minor stains to the leather).

Catalogue Note
SORMANI Paul (1817-1866) et Paul-Charles (5 février 1848- ?)- Paul Sormani établit son activité en 1847 au 7 cimetière Saint-Nicolas à Paris, puis déménagea en 1854 au 114 rue du Temple, et enfin au 10 rue Charlot en 1867. Il participa aux principales expositions en présentant des petits meubles de fantaisie, mais aussi d’excellentes reproductions de certaines pièces du Garde-Meuble National. L’entreprise reçut une médaille de bronze en 1849, puis une médaille de première classe en 1855. Lors de l’Exposition Universelle de 1867, son travail était décrit en ces termes : « Toute sa production révèle une qualité d’exécution de tout premier ordre ». Lorsque Sormani mourut, son fils Paul-Charles reprit l’affaire aux côtés de sa mère, Ursule-Marie-Philippine, et changea le nom de la société en Sormani Veuve Paul & fils. En 1914, Paul-Charles Sormani forma un partenariat avec Thiebault Frères, et l’entreprise déménagea au 134 boulevard Haussmann où elle demeura jusqu’à sa fermeture en 1934. Sormani excellait dans l’exécution de meubles de style Louis XV ou Louis XVI.
