 rectangular, the lid inset with an earlier oval enamel portrait of Louis XIV wearing armour with red epaulettes and a blue cloak, school of Petitot, scroll-chased gold spandrels with narrow blue enamel frame, the interior gold-lined, maker's mark, Paris 3e titre et garantie

Condition

generally good order, but scratched on enamel below glass, on left cheek to upper lip, lacking thumbpiece, small chip to back left bottom corner and light crack on rear nearby. some almost invisible restauration to tortoiseshell and base has at some point been reset.
