Condition
crizzling and restoration to blue enamel, some losses to enamel on borders, lid has been repinned and inner lining replaced. Base has been varnished throughout.

Catalogue Note
Otto Samuel Keibel naquit en 1768 à Pasewalk, au nord-est de la Prusse. La ville de son apprentissage reste inconnue, mais il insculpa son premier poinçon comme orfèvre et bijoutier à St Petersbourg le 12 Octobre 1797. Il était échevin au sein de la corporation des orfèvres en 1807/1808 et mourut l'année d'après, succédé par son fils Johann Wilhelm. La manufacture reçut maintes commissions de la cour impériale pour des bijoux maisétait également reconnue comme le meilleur atelier de boîtes en or au début du XIXe siècle à St Petersbourg.
Otto Samuel Keibel was born in 1768 in Pasewalk, in north-east Prussia. It is not known where he trained but he is recorded as first entering a maker’s mark as goldsmith and jeweller in St Petersburg on 12 October 1797. He was an alderman of the goldsmiths’ guild in 1807/8 and died the following year to be succeeded by his son Johann Wilhelm. The firm supplied orders and jewellery to the Imperial Court as well as being known as the best workshop for gold boxes in St Petersburg in the early 19th century.
