Lacking cresting, possibly originally painted and part of the room paneling.
Condition
The mirror with nice old bevelled plates; it is possible that this overmantel was originally part of the paneling of the room with a cresting, which appears to be lacking; the whole was probably originally painted as the gesso is not cut and is very thick and the gilding is much later; small chips and losses to gesso and gilding.
