Catalogue Note

The design for this salon suite was created by Jacob Frères in the early 1800's as a response to the new fashion of Egyptomania, which conquered France after Napoleon's campaign in Egypt between 1798 and 1801. A set of seat furniture of this model was delivered by Jacob Desmalter in 1805 for the salon of Prince Louis at Fontainebleau, see Egyptomania, Exhibition Catalogue, Paris, 1994, p. 281, no. 161.
