Possibly delivered in 1806 for the Premier Salon de L'Impératrice, Palais de Fontainebleau
Purchased by Mrs. Lerner from Dalva Brothers, New York in 1960

Condition

With indistinct red seal and traces of paper label. Originally folding stool, now fixed. With some scattered age and construciton cracks; not extensive. Small loss to wood to inside of one leg. Gesso with some chips and abrasions. Decoration probably later, now with some rubbing and surface dirt.

Jean-Baptiste Rode delivered a set of thirty pliants of this model for the Premier Salon de l'Impératrice at Fontainebleau in 1806. One of these stools is illustrated Jean-Pierre Samoyault, Mobilier Français Consulat et Empire, Paris, 2009, p. 178.
