Description
- porcelain
each reserved with a gilt-edged panel finely painted with a landscape or a figure in a landscape beneath the gilt band or foliate borders at the rim, comprising: a demilune bough pot affixed with ram's head handles, a two-handled beaker cup, two coffee cans and a saucer and a circular dish, all with crowned crossed batons and D marks in puce or blue; the bough pot, the two-handled cup and a coffee can and saucer with inscribed titles in blue, the figural coffee can and saucer and the circular dish with painter's numerals. Together with a similarly-decorated English porcelain oval teapot and cover. 9 pieces.
Provenance
The two-handled cup and the figural coffee can and saucer, sold, Sotheby's, London, June 18, 1974, lots 132 and 163
Condition
All in generally good condition, except:
Bough pot: The cover is lacking. There is some very minor and occasional wear to the gilding on the ram's head handles and to the gilt band borders.
The teapot: There is some wear or flaking to the gilding, especially on the handle and the spout. The cover fits the teapot perfectly; however the yellow ground color is more matte compared to the yellow ground color on the body of the teapot, which could be as a result of overzealous cleaning or it is possible that the cover could be matched to the teapot.
