Provenance

The Antique Porcelain Company, New York City
Property of Mr. Fritz Katz, sold, Sotheby's New York, March 3, 1979, lot 39

Condition

This scent bottle was previously catalogued as the head being a replacement most likely on the basis of the color difference between the fur trim of the hat and of the coat. However, other two examples that are discussed in the cataloguing note have the exact same color variations between the furs of the coat and the hat. The present example is the original stopper made in the period and appears not to be a replacement. Please note that there is a fine haircrack at the front extending down the neck from beneath the mount to the shoulder area and curving back up to the neck. It is possible that this is a small repaired break.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
