Catalogue Note

Similar candelabra with identical female figures, but with different bases, were sold Christie's London, June 14, 1990, lot 51 and Roger Prigent's Malmaison, Christie's New York, November 26, 2002, lot 347. Both pairs were signed Rabiat. Claude-François Rabiat (1756-1815), was made maître in 1778 after perfecting his craft under Etienne Vignerelle. He established his atelier at  41 rue Beaubourg and is know to have worked with some of the most famous bronziers of his time, such as Feuchère, Galle and Thomire, for whom he manufactured mostly clock cases, wall lights and candelabra.
