Catalogue Note
Often referred as the 'Callot' dwarfs, figures such as the present examples, were modelled after the Franco-Italian artist, Jacques Callot's publication of a series of twenty small etchings of dwarfs and hunchbacks entitled: Varie Figure Gobbi de Jacopo Callot, fatto in Firenza l'anno 1616. Four figures of this type are illustrated by Giuseppe Morazzoni, Le Porcellane Italiane, Volume I, plate 85c.
