Description

Condition

Wired for electricity. Feet and acorn finials later. Ormolu and patinated bronze with some rubbing, ormolu with some oxidation and surface dirt. Veneer with scattered cracks and somre losses; most to corners. Some restorations to wood.

Catalogue Note

The banker Perregaux, proprietor of Madmoiselle Guimard's former home in the early 1800's, is known to have owned an enrcrier of this model. An inkwell identical to the present lot and formerly in the collection of Lord Elgin, was sold Sotheby's London, June 12, 1992, lot 307.
