Literature

Possibly referred to in An Inventory of the Household Furniture belonging to the Right Hon. the Earl Brooke in Warwick Castle, 21st June, 1756 (Mss. WRO CR 1886, TN926), in the Green Damask Bedchamber, the Great Cotton Room, and the Red Room three mirrors are described: 'one large looking Glafs in a gilt and carved frame'.

Warwick Castle, Heirlooms Inventory,circa 1900, listed in the Blue Boudoir where it is described as a 'Venetian MIrror 6ft 6in by 4ft.'

Condition

Good restored condition; it appears that the main mirror plate has been replaced (when comparing it with the image of it in the Syon House sale; in this same photograph there were a number of small leaf tips and parts of the carving which were missing and have been replaced or restored; the whole has been re-gilded with nice intentional wear to the gilding (as seen in the catalogue illustration); the mirror glass has age and has some pitting and crystallization throughout; the main plate with some minor losses.
