Condition

The underside of the top with small glue blocks over old crack or rout to the center of the top probably to correct old warpage and with a large block at the center; the top re-finished; overall with some old marks and scratches and nicks.

A similar commode in the Lady Lever Art Gallery, is discussed by Lucy wood in her Catalogue of Commodes, London, 1994, no. 21, and she draws similarities between the marquetry on the commode and no. 20, a commode by Thomas Chippendale.  A very similar Pembroke table, which sold at Sotheby's, Pulborough, March 1, 1983, lot 113 is illustrated ibid, p. 194, fig. 182; another similar Pembroke table sold at Sotheby's, London, February 14, 1992, lot 165 and illisutrated ibid, p. 194, fig. 183.
