Catalogue Note

This is clearly the work of a Roman 18th century artist.  Mr. Holland proposed the attribution to Cavallucci on the basis of comparison with a black chalk study of heads in Edinburgh which is preparatory for a painting in Pisa, and he suggested that the present work could be related to Cavallucci's Elijah on Mount Carmel in S. Martino ai Monti, Rome.1
