Description
- gold, malachite
Comprising: a necklace, designed as a series of malachite cameos depicting classical deities and nymphs, each within repoussé frames of scroll design, length approximately 460mm, links to reverse later added; a pair of pendent earrings of similar design, the cameos depicting Diana and Atlanta, later post and butterfly fittings; and a ring depicting the profile of a woman, size N1/2, later shank, some cameos cracked, fitted case for necklace and earrings.
Condition
Stamped 585 to earrings for 14 carat gold. Malachite with some dirt, chips and cracks, with signs of repair, mainly to reverse of necklace. In our opinion the classical scenes on the necklace depict (from the clasp) Venus, Zeus, Leda and and swan, Ariadne, Bacchus, Venus and Cupid. The earrings depicting Diana and Atlanta. It is believed the cameo on the ring originally formed as one of the links on the necklace. Necklace clasp secure with safety catch to side. Some abrasions and tarnish to metal consistent with age and wear.
