Of quatrefoil design, later set to the centre with an oval cabochon sapphire, decorated with micro-mosaic panels depicting the symbols of the Eucharist, inscribed to the reverse 'Donne Par S.S  Le Pape Pie IX a Lucie Fririon, 15 Janvier 1863'; accompanied by a pendant set to the centre with an oval citrine cameo depicting the profile of The Madonna.

Condition

Mounted in gold. Abrasions and scratches commensurate with age and wear. A few small areas of micro-mosaic deficient, not noticebale to the naked eye. Sapphire measuring approximately 23.9 x 17 x 13.6 = 59.68 carats, light pale blue opaque to translucnet clarity. Citrine cameo with small chips and abrasions to facet edges.

Catalogue Note

By tradition the micromosaic pendant was originally set with the citrine cameo of the Madonna, which was later unmounted and replaced with the present cabochon sapphire.
