Catalogue Note
Colophon:
Fascicle (Juan) Three from Bao’en jing. Preserved in the Dunhuang Grottos. Authenticated and collected by Luoyuan.
Jingtu Temple was renamed Sanjie Temple in the early Tang dynasty. In this volume, the character shi is not missing any stroke, and it must be by someone of the Six Dynasties period. The structure of the characters rather resembles the Wei heinü muzhi. This work was already treasured by the Sui dynasty, and this is why it bears two seals of the Jingtu Temple. Although the opening of the scroll is damaged, still about two zhang of it remains. The well-preserved wooden roller at the end of the scroll is especially precious. This is truly a treasure!
In the tenth month of the gengyin (1950) year, recorded at the Qiushishe in Shanghai.
