Description

the pommel carved in the shape of a whinnying horse's head with flared nostrils and flattened ears, his eyes inlaid with gold-set spinels and mane descending to one side, the hilt further decorated with a trefoil flower spray embellished in gold and inset with coloured gems, flanked by curved feathery-leaf quillons and upright acanthus leaves in low relief to grip, the smoothly polished stone of warm sage-green colour mottled with snowflake inclusions and incised on one side with an inscription, possibly later added

Condition

The tip-end of the two ears is chipped. There is some pitting to the surface of the hilt. Thee are some losses to the gold border inset along the quillons edge.
