Description

the deity seated in dhyanasana with hands held in dhyanamudra, wearing a clinging dhoti fastened at the waist with a ribbon and draping over his knees, a shawl further cast around his shoulders leaving the torso bare, his chest bejewelled with an embellished torque suspending a beaded pectoral, his face detailed with hooded eyes, a straight nose and bud lips below the red stone-urna, all set in a benign expression framed by pendulous earlobes, below tightly curled hairs culminating in a gilt-bronze inset gemmed ushnisha, the base sealed with a gilt plaque incised with a vajra, the smoothly polished stone of sage-green colour mottled with golden shades and milky inclusions, all supported on lapiz-lazuli lotus base, the carved wood stand backed with a gilt-bronze mandorla chased in openwork with lotus blossoms above tumultuous waves breaking on a rock surrounded by the bajixiang within a border of flickering flames

Condition

The figure is in good condition, with just minor surface wear. The lapis stand appears to have been stabilized, especially along the natural flaws. The mandorla has minor surface wear and minute areas of rubbing to the gilding.
