  • Pendant set with a cameo of a pelican
  • onyx, mounted in gold with a filigree loop
  • Byzantine, 12th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the cameo is good with some wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There is a small chip at the feet of the bird and a stable fissure on the lower right. The gold mount is warped and slightly dented along the edges and reverse. A joint between the front and reverse is visible along the edge. The hoop has some rubbing to the beaded decoration.
