Catalogue Note
When Amendola came to London he became close friends with Lawrence Alma-Tadema. A portrait of the Neapolitan sculptor by Alma-Tadema in a private collection shows him modelling a sculpture of Alma-Tadema's wife in a similar pose as the present bronze.
