Condition
The canvas has been relined. There is a pattern of faint craquelure, which is mostly visible only under close inspection. Under ultraviolet light the varnish layer fluoresces evenly and quite opaquely, however a handful of scattered minor retouchings are visible, notably a vertical line to the right of the snail in the lower right corner (with some associated abrasion), in the upper right corner, in the upper left near the leaves, and in one of the thistle leaves. These have discoloured somewhat and are visible to the naked eye. The overall appearance of this work is good.
Held in a decorative gilt frame.
