These six drawings were published within Punch as follows: 2 July 1913, p. 12, 21 October 1925, p. 430, 17 January 1940, p. 80, 23 October 1940, p. 401, 11 September 1940, p. 282 and 18 December 1940, p. 603.

One of the great contributors to Punch, G.L. Stampa (1875-1951) was described in his Punch obituary as 'the last of the Bohemians'. The Daily Chronicle described him as 'a master of black and white... a humorist in the great Leech tradition'. See also lot 359.
