Description

well potted with deep lobed rounded sides supported on a slightly tapered foot, the plain centre on the interior surrounded by narrow flutes resembling the petals of a chrysanthemum flower and continuing across the foot on the exterior, elegantly covered overall with an even pale celadon glaze, draining to white at the scalloped rim and on the raised ridges on the interior and pooling to a darker tone between the lobes on the exterior, the base left white and inscribed in underglaze blue with a six-character reign mark within a double ring

Condition

There are small minute openings in the glaze on the scalloped rim and a pin-prick air bubble, some uneveness/imperfections on the surface glaze on the exterior near the foot but overall the bowl is in very good condition. The actual colour is quite close to the catalogue illustration.

Catalogue Note

Another celadon-glazed chrysanthemum bowl of this large size, of Yongzheng mark and period, was sold in these rooms, 17th May 1988, lot 71; and a third at Christie's Hong Kong, 26th April 2004, lot 943.

A matching celadon dish of Yongzheng mark and period from the Leshantang collection was sold in these rooms 11th April 2008, lot 2503.
