Condition
Colour:
The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate.
Condition:
This work is in very good condition. Close inspection reveals extremely fine and unobtrusive hairline cracks running intermittently along where the relief joins the back board. Further close inspection reveals a very light handling mark on the lower edge towards the lower left corner and two minute specks of paint loss beneath the centre of the extreme left hand edge and a few isolated cracks to the papier-mâché corner joins. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra-violet light.

Catalogue Note
“I was fascinated by the way Klee’s drawings and painting, constructed and assembled with rigorous detail to form their strict compositions and subjects, always retained an element of imagination. Without being aware of it at the time, I felt that it was precisely this stringent order that allowed for the multi-faceted and mysteriously rich associations.” (The artist translated and cited from Atelier 5, Jan J. Schoonhoven, Leverkusen, 1981)
