Description

  • OAK LEATHER

Literature

One of the chairs illustrated, Victor Chinnery, Oak Furniture The British Tradition, Antique Collectors Club. 1979, page 138 figure 2:149.

Condition

Within this matched set there appears to be two groups that share stylistic similarities; a set of six and two similar. There are differences to the height of each back and seat. Other differences include the arrangement of brass studs, the thickness of the uprights supporting backs, the turning and the ball feet. Some of these ball feet are worn or later replacements. Three of the chairs have repairs to the back legs. Perhaps the greatest indicator of age is the condition of the leather upholstery. These coverings have extensive ware from use. This ware includes stitched repairs, losses, tears and patching. All of the repairs to the leather appear to have great age. Typical rubbing to turned elements and some of the chairs with loose frames. An atmospheric set with great charm.
