Condition

Very good condition overall with a few minor chips to the edges of the marble base consistent with age and handling. Both tails restored. Three fine hairline fissures to the surface of the marble (natural veins?)

Catalogue Note

Giambologna réalisa en 1594 le groupe d'un Cheval attaqué par un lion d'après le modèle antique du Capitole. Ce groupe fortement célébré depuis sa découverte fit notamment l'admiration de Michel-Ange (op.cit, p 266-268).
