The illustration is accurate.
Good overall condition despite inevitable scratches, marks and wear due to age and handling.
The back wrought iron are missing.

Catalogue Note
Des modèles de chenets en forme de pyramide sont connus au début du XVIIIe siècle, le plus célèbre étant celui d'André-Charles Boulle représentant une pyramide flanquée de sphinges, publié chez Mariette dans un recueil de planches gravées. La paire de chenets présentée ici, illustre l'une des variantes qui furent exécutées à l'époque. Elle peut être rapprochée d'une paire datée autour de 1700 conservée au Musée des Arts Décoratifs à Paris (17840A), illustrée dans Vergoldete Bronzen, Vol. I, 1986, p.68. Nous pouvons également la comparer à une seconde paire vendue chez Christie's à New York le 3 mai 1983, lot 304. Notre version semble cependant légèrement postérieure comme l'indiquent notamment les proportions plus gracieuses et le décor plus abouti.
