Condition

The work is overall in good condition. Colours are fairly accurate in the catalogue illustration, although the overall tonality is more subdued in the original. Few tiny holes are located along the extreme edges and some are only visible when the work is unframed, two of which – on the right end side - are visible in the catalogue illustration. Most probably original to the work, a chip of the support on the upper left corner of 1,5 cm is visible in the catalogue illustration. Due to the support thin cracks and tiny scattered paint losses are only visible under very close inspection mainly on the surface of the white impastos. 3 tiny dots of retouching located on the top left quadrant are only visible under UV light.

Catalogue Note

"Donner l'impression d'improviser sur-le-champ tout en imposant une perfection qui nous conquiert. Voilà le véritable problème technique."
(R. - V. Gindertael, Hans Hartung, Pierre Tisné, Editeur, 1960, p.98)
