Condition

The illustration is accurate. As stated on the catalogue description, there is a crack and a lifting at the back of the body. One ivory finial retaining the a string is missing at the bottom. one key has been brocken. The front rose window with some minutes cracks.

Catalogue Note

Plus proche du cistre que de la guitare classique, ce type d'instrument fut popularisé en France sous le terme de "guitare angloise". La production de Remerus Liessem, luthier établi à Londres au XVIIIe siècle, s'étend  principalement entre 1730 et 1760. Le Musée du Théâtre et de la Musique de Stockholm possède un exemplaire similaire au nôtre exécuté par Liessem en 1759 (F441).
