Description
- Zhang Daqian (Chang Dai-chien, 1899-1983)
- GREEN LOTUS
- ink and colour on paper, hanging scroll, 1950
with two seals of the artist. Titleslip by Kao Ling-mei
Inscription:
All the little boat’s windows red are open.
By the delicate hands in solicitude are flowers picked,
Over a green-leaf cup of wine, all the recent pleasurable things are told;
The lotus should cherish this cup for ever more.
It was a winter day of the gengyin year. The Indian lotus was still in blossom. I cruised on the West Lake at Jiacheng (Calcutta), picking flowers and drinking wine. It was indeed a precious delight for one in exile. Dai-chien Chang Yuan.
