Catalogue Note

The Perseus Series was commissioned from Burne-Jones by Aurthur Balfour in 1875.  Full scale gouache cartoons were made over the next ten years and from these the finished paintings were made. The present drawing is a study for the head of Medusa; the model was Mrs Drummond, sister of W.A.S. Benson.
