Catalogue Note

Second edition of this classic theory of mercantilism, written before the Physiocrats and before Adam Smith. Melon (1675-1738) was personal secretary to John Law, and later to the Regent of France. First published in 1734, his work emphasize the role of the consumer, and controversially advocated the substitution of slavery for domestic help.
