Catalogue Note
After graduating from the lithography workshop in the Printmaking Department of the Central Academy of Fine Art in 1999, Wei Jia won countless awards with his lithographic works. Although he would later settle on oil painting as his primary medium, lithography was the origin of his art. His skills as a printmaker won him renown and accolades almost immediately: "His images have a hint of Surrealism and lingering poetic flavor. Rendered in cold tonalities and with a distant sense of space, his supra-experiential dream-like scenarios where metaphorical human actions are frozen naturally remind the viewer of the metaphysical master Giorgio de Chirico and the Surrealist giant René Magritte."[1]
