Catalogue Note
As the first 'post-70s' pioneer artist in China, Xia Junna made her debut as soon as she finished her studies, winning the silver medal at 'The 3rd Chinese Oil Painting Annual Exhibition'. In the following years her works won wide acclaim from bothcritics and collectors, casting her as one of the greatest names inthe second half of the 1990s. Evening is one of Xia's best works of this period. The relaxing, lethargic atmosphere combines with gentle, subdued brushstrokes to evoke a strong sense of female delicacy and melancholy. . This work is an example of the high sophistication of Xia's ouevre, despite her young age.
