Running up Slope and Market Place
Huang Guiquan's black-and-white photographs preserve the flavour of Hong Kong in the 60's and 70's. Taken in Shek Kip Mei, Running up a Slope sets three boys against a backdrop with an oversize camouflage-like pattern, moving rapidly from realism into abstraction. Market Place depicts locals buying vegetables. Seen through the photographer's lens, they become a boundless and bustling crowd.
