Huang Guiquan was born in Hong Kong in 1932. His works have been repeatedly recognized by the International Association of Photographers. Adept at infusing the photographic moment with emotion, he also uses multiple exposure to combine well-defined and undefined images. Implemented entirely outside the darkroom, this technique has the effect of ink wash and creates the mood of Chinese landscape paintings, infusing Huang's photographs with suggestive overtones beyond the depicted subjects.
Dreaming of Spring, Rainy Day
Without a clear protagonist, Dreaming of Spring records the atmosphere of a shaded path in nature and plays with the illusion of depth to invite the viewer into the scene. Rainy Day skillfully makes use of reflections to dramatize the colours of a rain-drenched road. The two images, though taken from reality, poetically evoke the wonders of nature and human society.
